Weep not child!

This year I didn't put up a post on my birthday but I had the most amazing time with the people that I love doing the things I love....EATING! 

I'm the cute one in the middle

For the first time in a long time I AM INDEED HAPPY and my joy stems from the inside. I realised what an amazing life I am living and what a priviledge it is to be alive and watch the plot unfold revealing a wonderful story  with me being the lead actress and the holy spirit directing.

 I have a ministry that is touching lives one smile at a time ( yeah, comedy is a ministry you know..lol) and i'm living purposefully. I have realised life is not about me but how I impact lives with the life I've been blessed with flaws and all.  Like Paul the scales have fallen off my eyes and NOW I SEE.

That evening while enjoying the sumptuous dinner, I desired just one thing, The Tardis. ...you know the time machine in the BBC show Dr Who! 

My utmost desire was not the head of John the baptist, diamonds, husband or anything grandiose just a time machine!  Oh, if only I could lay my hands on a real time machine, I would go back in time and tell the younger me, that girl that was hurt, unappreciated, unloved, rejected, emotionally and physically abused, not to worry that every thing will be alright. 

I want to give that broken girl a tight hug probably squash her a little bit too hard, wipe her tears and not leave her until I see a twinkle in those lovely brown (I hope..lol) eyes. I would love to give her a much needed kick in the nether region too but that would only damage her some more. Like Jesus " a bruised reed he will not break and a smoldering wick He will not snuff out" Isaiah 42:3.

I will tell her the accident, disability, unwanted pregnancy, Joshua, Autism, every stone maliciously thrown at her, she used them to build a bridge of TESTIMONY and what a beautiful testimony it is. 

I will tell her she is stronger than she looks and tougher than she thinks. In fact her life experiences make up the bulk of her comic material. ..lol.  I will tell her about Laugh out Loud,  a comedy platform she uses to reach out to people battling mental health issues  and can't also wait to regail her with the success of Fifty Shades of Beautiful which is the charity organisation she set up  to help people with special needs and disability. All these are fall out from her life experiences. See girl, In all we turn out well. Therefore weep not my child, it will make sense!

That evening, I invited the young ladies in my youth class alongside my dear friend and it was a laughter filled dinner. Through their eyes I saw the young girl I was full of laughter and  dream and in mine they saw what God can do through a broken yet yielded life.

I don't know the point you are right now while reading this post but I want you to know EVERYTHING WILL BE JUST FINE. A broken home, relationship, financial difficulties, job loss, disability are all "night" time experience. It will soon pass." Weeping may last for the night but rejoicing comes in the morning" Psalm 30:5.

As absurd as it might sound, there is a purpose to your pain. It might not make sense now but it will soon.  Your story matters and so do you.

The perfect gift.

Hello peeps, the celebration continues today. Its sales, sales and more sales and I am not going to miss out on the fun. ITS THE SEASON. However, I am going with a list and sticking with it, no use filling the house with unwanted items(that time don pass...lol). I KNOW BETTER NOW!

As promised, I finally got round to opening my family Christmas presents this morning. Many thanks to everybody that blessed me and mine with gifts. I APPRECIATE YOU ALL. Josh got all sorts of gifts but two particular gifts caught his  attention; a magnetic sketcher and story books from his teacher. These gifts appealed to his needs and interests.

THE STORY BOOK: My son loves books and enjoys being read to. Words can not fully describe his excitement when he saw the books. It was what he desired and his response was a testament to that.
THE MAGNETIC SKETCHER: His motor skills has improved so we've got the writing going on well. My little professor loves every opportunity to show off his tracing and writing skills. This gift will enable him have fun while he is also learning and enhancing his fine motor skills.

The gift are not much in financial value but the intrinsic values are inestimable. The benefits have more than aesthetic appeal and address the needs of my son. THAT MAKES THEM PERFECT.
THE SOURCE; These special presents came from his teacher who is very familiar with his likes and needs. He was able to buy the appropriate gifts armed with his knowledge of Joshua's needs. THAT IS WISDOM.  Wisdom is simply  the right application of knowledge and Mr O'Sullivan applied his knowledge in getting gift for his student.

Buying of gifts can be an herculean task most times. I dread gift shopping because getting presents for some people is like solving puzzles with missing pieces. people want to give gifts that will appeal to the reciever and will be used not dumped in a corner. Here is the problem. It's not easy identifying and attending to the needs of others. This is because needs differ for each person.  A lot of people still confuse their wants with needs. What one person might deem as a need might be an extravagant or frivolous want by another. For instance, a pair of designer shoes is not an immediate need for a homeless or hungry person. "Needs are fundamental for human survival while wants on the other hand as a human desire to get something additional after they have satisfied their recurring needs" .
I have learnt in dealing with people to attend to needs and not want-wants only come after needs  have been met. Don't get me wrong, wants are not bad but should come after  initial priorities have been met.
The story of the woman caught in adultery gets me every time. Jesus did not condemn her because her action was already self- condemning and her accusers reiterated the fact with their stones ready for the kill  . At the point Jesus met her, He did not come with stones but with the gift of FORGIVENESS. He met her need. WHAT A SAVIOUR.

The best person that can truly identify the needs of man is GOD.The rest of humanity can only guess. That is why at Christmas, He gave mankind the gift of Jesus. After the fall of man, he did not need gold or silver but REDEMPTION.
Many times we don't know what we need but God does. HE KNOWS AND HE WILL GIVE. "but my God shall supply all my needs according to His riches and glory by Christ Jesus" Phil 4:19.
  Since human needs differ, their are certain steps in identifying the needs of others.

• Form and have a relationship.
• Ask don't assume.
• Observe.
• respect individuality-don't generalise.

Now the gift of Christmas, IT IS MORE THAN PERFECT.

The funniest story ever told.

Have you heard of the laughter club? believe it or not, it does exist. It's a place where  groups of people gather to laugh for no obvious reason. To the viewing public it seems crazy but there is a purpose to their "madness".

 Laughter is liberating, exhilarating, contagious and absolutely free. Its is food for the soul bringing life to both the body and spirit. My people say "laughter is the best medicine"  Laughter engages the body, mind and spirit. You cant be laughing and be still like a statue there is always an element of body and facial movement. To laugh you must also make meaning of what is being said or at least find humour in the  the expressive gestures of the speaker or situation.

 Laughter is an expression of joy, fulfilment, delight, favour or simple fun. Sometimes you don't need a reason to laugh but you laugh anyway. P.S make that a private affair before the people around think you've lost it and bundle you to the nearest Mental home!

 Nigeria has a very rich crop of comedians. The mere sight of some of them can make even the grumpiest person burst into unbridled laughter. Its no wonder the comic industry is a very viable and booming industry not only in Nigeria but all over the world .  The industry is a giving industry; no amount of money can equate the pleasure or release that laughter gives. That's why people flock to these shows that promise  rib cracking laughter to those seeking release from stress or a place to simply laugh without holding back.

Some of the funny stories shared range from the downright outlandish to the most bizarre while some laugh just by seeing the comedian's appearance, gestures or know his pedigree.

 However the funniest story ever told was not at a comedy show. Rather it surrounded the birth of Isaac-a child born to very old parents. The bible records in Genesis 18 that Abraham and Sarah were already very old, and Sarah was way past child bearing age.. In fact there was no longer "juice in the factory" or any reason to visit the "factory sef". When Sarah was told she'd have a baby in her old age, she laughed. But who wouldn't? Her womb was dead and dead means dead no matter how you want to translate or be less blunt!. It was an idea she could not afford to allow settle in her heart. It was unbelievable! IMPOSSIBLE! Her condition defied any existing medical condition. But only God has power over death. I'm sure when she became pregnant and she told her friends, they laughed at her. "Poor Sarah", they'd say behind her back. "she's gone nuts with longing for a child". Eventually, their laugh of derision changed to unbelief then pure joy.  Now instead of laughing at her, they were laughing with her. Every time people heard Sarah's story they laughed and praised the name of the Lord.

God is the true source of laughter. "He gives drink from the rivers of delight". Psalm 36:8. The broken, lame, hopeless, sick, all gather to drink from Him.The bible is filled with testimonies of God's humour at play. When a situation seems dire and without hope, God suddenly shows up and there erupts an unbridled burst of laughter transforming lives wherever the sound is heard.
Comic shows make people for as long as the program last and its back to reality. So why not find lasting source in Christ and His word? The haze of alcohol will fade, friends will go but the word of God stays with you for life!
Today's funniest story ever told is your making it against all odds. Despite the divorce, debts, medical diagnosis, rejections, and disappointments yet you are still standing; my dear you are a miracle.
Now turn that frown right side up, your situation is simply a set up so that  "everyone who hears your testimony will laugh with you.". THAT'S THE SPIRIT.

Change your perspective

There is a story about a sales man who was sent to a remote region to sell shoes but on getting there he reported to his superiors that there was no viable market in the region as the residents don't wear shoes. After several months another sales representative was sent to the same region to sell shoes and his report was different.He called his superiors highly excited about the prospective market in the region for shoes.

 Two sales man working for the same company, selling the same product, catering to the same market but with absolute different outlook on the target. The challenge was the same but their attitude was the different. One saw potential  while the other saw defeat.

In the book of Numbers 13, Moses sent twelve Israelites to explore the promised land as God had instructed. Twelve people spied the land, had the same report but had a very different response to the situation. Ten people said the land was filled with giants and  noticed the surrounding problems totally disregarding the viability of the land. In analysing the situation they saw themselves as "grasshoppers" with no hope of survival.  Caleb and Joshua on the other hand only saw the potentials and their ability to possess the land "we should go up and take possession of the land,for we can certainly do it" Numbers 13:30. They had a can-do attitude.

CENTRAL TRUTH: Every body has the potential to see but we differ greatly in what we see, how we see and our response to what we see. For every knotty situation, we either see problems or challenges. A problem is a negative mindset about a situation while a challenge presents itself as a potential for growth and success-its a matter of perspective. When you view your circumstance,  do you see  problems or potential for excellence? Remember David? Goliath was an opportunity for promotion not a problem before the young shepherd. David did not cower before the ginormous man towering above him but saw a situation no bigger than what he'd faced in the past. To prove this point, he tackled this challenge with a simple shot from his sling. Goliath did not deserve a sword or worth stressing over.

The perspective you have concerning any issue will determine your attitude. Its a known fact that your attitude in turn would determine your altitude.

The Israelites were on the verge of the promised land, seen evidence of the abundance in the promised land but their "grasshopper" mentality prevented them from taking possession of the land "we seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes and we looked the same to the same". They had a wrong mind view of themselves. They'd experienced the wonders of God in Egypt, the red sea and the wilderness and they still thought themselves to be NOTHING!!. They spent years wandering the wilderness because of their warped view of themselves. To think they were so close to it. The promised land was within their reach but they missed it for another forty years!

. Caleb and Joshua had no such low perspective of themselves. They'd experienced God and trusted Him. Same as David.Your perspective is in the WORD OF GOD."you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood,a holy nation, God's own special possession" 1 Peter 2:9
The first shoe sales man would have experienced a record sales but for his negative view of the situation. He could have been named regional director of that region if he'd only seen right. The truth is our strength is not of ourselves but of God. Until a person starts seeing from God's perspective, life will be a vicious cycle of defeats and unfulfilled potentials. its almost the end of the year but not the end of the world, miracles still happen if only you will believe. Change your perspective and change your life.
STRATEGIES FOR CHANGING A WARPED PERSPECTIVE.

• recall the goodness of God.
• Grace.

• Guard your heart and mind
• watch your word.

Simple Obedience

Am I the only one that loves reading comments on articles or blogspots? Obviously not! I find the comment section interesting, educative, hilarious and downright crazy some times. Some comments are simply unbelievable! This morning I came across a particular comment that somewhat saddened me. A young lady left a comment on a YouTube video of a popular American preacher. She'd met the man in an elevator at a conference and requested that the man prayed for her as she'd had a near death experience.  Instead of personally praying for the lady, the pastor requested that she asked any graduating student at the even to pray for her. From her comment, she never did as the pastor requested but got upset and now holds a grudge.

 The above story sound familiar doesn't it? Reminds me of the encounter Naaman had with Elisha in 2 Kings 5. This reputable Syrian general had gone to meet the prophet of God to be cured off his sickness only to be given a seemingly silly instruction. Elisha did not even deem it fit to accord him a royal welcome as he'd expected. The Syrian general got upset, ready to return home without doing as Elisha instructed but thank God for his servants who encouraged him to do the prophets bidding.

CENTRAL TRUTH: God's instructions sometimes never makes sense. He is too Sovereign to be confined within man's reasoning "For my thought are not your thought nor your ways my ways, declares the Lord" Isaiah 55:8. In the case of Naaman, he was expecting Elisha to come out' wave a wand or utter some magical hocus pocus but the instruction was to simply dip himself seven times in water. As if that was not bad enough, he was told to wash himself in the Jordan river of all rivers! That almost made him blow a fuse. After all Syria boasted better and cleaner waters. However before God, it was not about the water or Naaman's expectations but a matter of simple obedience. 

Obedience  simply acknowledges the Lordship of God without questioning his ways. God is seeking men and women who are willing to obey his commands without demanding to know the How, where, when; a generation of people who will run at His commands. A wise man wrote that obedience is an expression of our love for God. "if you love me, you will keep my commands"John 14:15

one reason why a lot of people are not living in the abundance God promises His children can be found in disobedience. Many have "set" minds on how things should be done and how success can be achieved. Unfortunately it doesn't have to be your way "I am the Lord your God,who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way that you should go" Isaiah 48:17. God has your good in mind. Imagine what would have happened if the widow at Zarephat had ignored Elijah's instruction. Her small provisions would have run out and her family would have died of starvation. However in a simple act of obedience to a weird instruction, her family was sustained through out the famine.

If only that lady that made the comment on the pastor's page had simply obeyed instead of being set in her way, she'd have saved herself the heartache and her testimony would have been different today. Since we are  brave enough to call God father, lets take the relationship higher in the area of obedience.

OBSTACLES TO OBEDIENCE:FEAR, DOUBT, UNBELIEF, NEGATIVE SET MIND.

INGREDIENTS FOR OBEDIENCE: LOVE, FAITH, TRUST, GRACE.

Make up your mind.Stop questioning God's method and start trusting HIM. He knows best.

The Fault in our Stars.

The title of this post is based on a movie about two teens, Hazel and Augustus who both have different cancer conditions. They met at a cancer support group and their journey of love follows the complexity of living a full life within a short time. Truth is, I have not watched the movie yet but was deeply moved by its promotional clip. The part that caught my attention was when Hazel asked Augustus why he was staring at her. He gave a simple yet profound answer "because you are beautiful".According to the world standard, there is nothing pretty about a girl living with cancer and logging around an oxygen tank to help her breath. But Augustus saw beyond Hazel's challenges and only focused on the beautiful woman trapped within that broken shell. Never mind that Augustus was broken Himself. Knowing his own "brokenness" he connected with Hazel's "brokenness". The cancer was the bridge that brought them together. He did not judge her or condemn her but empathised with her suffering because he was suffering too. He understood her pain, weakness and frailties.

In  a particular scene in Shakespeare's play, Julius Caesar, the noble man Cassius says to Brutus  "the fault dear Brutus is not in our stars but in ourselves".
We live in a broken world with broken people who deny their brokenness but go about hurting people while hurting themselves.  The world is filled with hurting people trying to heal others when they require healing themselves.These ones end up doing more harm than good "you hypocrite,first take the plank out of your own eyes and then you will see clearly to remove the speck in your brother's eyes" Matthew 7:5 .
The thing is we've all got something in our "eyes". Nobody has perfect vision that is why every man is a work in progress as we journey to perfection.

I sometimes attend a support group for parents with special needs kids in my area. The aim of the group is for parents to glean from each others experiences and encourage one another. At the meetings we don't laugh at each other but laugh together, bonded by our challenges though some more trying than others. It would be foolhardy to laugh at others when my life aint so perfect itself.
Our challenges might be different but everyone has got an issue whether speck size or plank size. Instead of laughing at others, show understanding!
The fault in our stars is that we spend too much time time judging others instead of empathizing, showing compassion and offering  a helping hand.

That's why I adore Jesus. He did not come to judge the world but save. John 12:47. He had every right to condemn but he didn't.
Relationships will augur well if people love more and judge less. The fault is not with our stars but in us.Too many broken people acting all put together but broken nevertheless.  We are broken people desperately in need of a saviour. Thank God we may be imperfect but we serve a perfect God who makes all things beautiful in His time.

Just Waiting on Him

Editor's Note: Greatness stems from commitment in little things. The level of dedication a man puts into little assignments is most times a reflection of how he'll handle greater opportunities. The preparation for any assignment is as great as the assignment itself. Don't complain, put your back into it. This was exactly what Stephen was doing-being faithful in waiting on tables and dealing with seemingly small matters. Though Stephen was full of Faith and the Holy Spirit, he did not disdain the assignment as it prepared him for the meeting with the Sanhedrin. Acts 6&7. The battle of the flabs is taking too long abi? I get frustrated sometimes too.

In a bid to shift the belly flab, I went for my normal exercise this morning. Exercise for the body, music for the soul remember? At least according to my Physical Education teacher back in secondary school. I was so engrossed putting one leg after the other that I did not notice the man on the bicycle until he shouted a boisterous greeting that startled me. He rode away barely missing a stride while I mumbled a response in return. With a smile, he busted into an Irish melody and whistled away oblivious to the cold weather.

Many things came to my mind as I continued my walk and top on the list was the whistling stranger.  His high spirits did not match his appearance. He looked very unkempt with very shaggy beards and somewhat dirty clothings. It wasn't a work-dirty look, more like a lack-dirty-look. There was nothing about him to even suggest "secret millionaire", I would have known(I have an inbuilt raider for these things..lol)

He was singing this very catchy lively song but his circumstances was contrary. It didn't matter that the weather was cold and nippy, my new friend chose happy over dreary. He could have chosen to be morose despairing on whatever was wrong with his life but instead he chose to enjoy the day and spread his joy by shouting a warm greeting to a strange woman battling to shed her belly fat. 

This strange encounter reminds me of what scripture says about happiness. It is devoid of the circumstances around us whether good or bad but founded on the truth of God's Word "Whoever trusts in the lord, happy is he"Proverbs 16:20.

 

If happiness was determined by circumstances and stuffs, what poor fellows we are indeed. For such people life will be frustrating because circumstances change. "weeping may last for a night but joy comes with the morning" psalm 30:5. Basing your joy on transient situations is an unstable way to live. So instead of wallowing on what you have or don't have, the storms that are raging in your life, the situations you may not be able to handle at the moment, chose Happy.

I finished my walk with a new bounce to my feet grateful to be alive belly fat or not. Instead of complaining I am spurred to LIVE HAPPY.

Nothing To Fear Afterall

I dreaded going to the hospital primarily because the doctors will always have something to say about my blood sugar levels. The readings were defying regular intervention despite regular  exercises and my genuine attempt to eat well. This particular day was no different. I was nervous as I approached the nurses station. My palms were sweaty and I wondered why I'd not fainted yet as my heart beat was beating erratically.

 I'd been battling high sugar levels since my teenage years. Although I was not officially diagnosed with diabetes back then, my sugar level tend to creep up when I worried or was sick but nobody took it seriously. Gestational diabetes changed the diagnoses and its been a challenge since.Now you know why I panic at the sight of a medical appointment. However,I decided to do things differently following years of "diabetic intimidation. I got tired of letting diabetes control my happiness or the sight of a medical appointment sending jitters down my spine.

 With a smile and a little prayer, I went in to see the doctor. Waiting for any result is never easy but eventually the results came and the readings were normal. My best results in years. I'd not checked my sugar levels in months so had not noticed when the changes took place but it had. I'd been worrying over an issue that was no longer threatening. Fear stopped me from checking my sugars and same fear robbed me off joy every time I ate an extra apple or ate my favourite meal.

Fear is described with the acronym False Evidence Appearing Real. Its an evidence that is false despite its appearance. My new favourite pastor Jentezen Franklyn helped me understand this concept of fear better. He explained that when Jacob was presented with the blood soaked coat belonging to his son Joseph,he believed the evidence before him and wept many days. "And he recognised it and said "it is my son's tunic. A wild beast has devoured him. Without doubt Joseph is torn to pieces".
Jacob was deceived by what he saw but his son was alive as he would find out years later.  He spent days bound in mourning based on a false evidence appearing real.

I also found interesting the Israelites encounter with Goliath in 1 Samuel 17. This gigantic bulk of a man would come out every morning to bully the Israelites. "for forty days the Philistine came forward every morning and evening and took his place" Vrs 16.
Notice he did nothing but intimidate the Israelites for forty good days without actually making good on his threats. For forty days the Israelites cowered before this bully who was all air. At the end of it all, it took a single sling shot from a simple shepherd boy to knock him down. BAM!!
If we look closely at the things that bother us through the lens of scriptures we find that there is really nothing to fear afterall. God has taken care of everything.

I no longer fear checking my sugar levels because now I know diabetes aint the boss of me. I do my part eating well and exercising and trust the word of God for the rest.
Don't let fear rid you of the opportunity to enjoy life. Fear is crippling. Don't be a victim. Like David bring out your sling shot which stands for the word of God and bring that Giant toppling down.

Where to Look in Dark Times

Editor's Note: I met the most amazing woman some months ago who greatly inspired me. I cannot recollect her name as I type this article but I remember her story clearly which is what truly matters. Three times divorced, widowed, physically and emotionally abused and mother to seven children, her story seemed like a never ending tale of pain and sadness. Despite the plenty upheavals in her life, this amazing woman was able to achieve a life time dream of being a solicitor. It took her years and lots of heartaches, rejections and wrong turns but she arrived at her goal. She spends most of her time inspiring women all over the world that "life is possible" despite the plans of the enemy. A lot of people desire her life now but many would shy short of the dark times she went through. Your ability to trust God in the dark times is key to promotion and success.

 I remember this amazing woman today after I read this brilliant article by Ken Puls which focuses on where to look when the path seemed dark and endless. Many times when challenges comes many people worry, panic, do everything else but turn to God. Follow this link to read more

Oh Taste and See

Just by merely looking at the murky concoction that my father was making, I knew without a shadow of doubt that I wanted no part of it. Unfortunately, I got nominated to do the honours of passing verdict on this invention. My father is an ardent cook and is always looking for creative ways to make bland food more interesting. His children were his test victims but this particular food simply did not pass my visual test so I bluntly refused.

 No way on earth's sphere was I going to allow that "muck" down my throat. I had witnessed the making of it and believed it wasn't just safe..lol. Without pushing his luck, my father simply handed over his creation to my younger ones who took it with mush gusto and were gushing about "baba's" latest fad. I was waiting for someone to throw up only to see them smacking their lips and begging for more.

Quietly and out of curiosity, I went to taste the dregs of the concoction  and IT WAS AMAZING. Tail in hand, I crawled to my father and asked for some. "Baba, i tasted the drink and its actually nice. Can I have some", I begged. But it was too late. My Chef Daddy had cleaned up his creative instruments and was done for the day. As a  child, that was the saddest day of my life made worse by my siblings making so much fuss about Baba's power drink. I made up my mind that day many years ago never to bluntly refuse anything that came out from my father's kitchen without at least giving it a trial.  He is my father and would not deliberately harm me. What my father made that night was a healthy jug full of green juice packed with healthy nutrients. I did not appreciate it initially but now I'm an advocate for green juice, call me a "Green Juice Campaigner".

 God has a lot in store for his children only if we will draw nigh unto him and trust His benevolence. How can you know the taste of a thing without making an attempt to put it on your tongue and allow your sense of taste give a verdict.

There is only so much information you can get from other people's review except you have a personal encounter. I love the ministry of the woman at the well with Jesus in John. After her meeting with Jesus, she ran into the village to share the good news. Out of curiosity, the villagers came out to meet the man who had sparked such excitement from this woman. They came out of curiosity but ended up with a personal experience. Their verdict was no longer based on second hand review."They said to the woman, we no longer believe just because of what you said now we have heard for ourselves and we know that this man is truly the Saviour of the world" John 4:1-42. "OH TASTE AND SEE". "The angel of the lord encamps around those who fear Him, And rescues them.Oh taste and see that the lord is good; how blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him. O fear the lord, you His saint, there is no want to those who fear Him" Psalm 34:7-9.

God is good and desires that everyone should partake of His immense goodness and generosity. "I will satisfy my priests with abundance and my people shall be filled with my bounty", declares the lord. Jeremiah 31:14.  In fact, God oozes goodness.

The lord wants to save, heal, restore, bless etc. Like.Like my glass of green juice, God is full of goodness and wants you to partake in the overflow. O TASTE AND SEE.
